Understanding our past gives us direction for the future. Historic buildings help us know the life styles, social activities, and culture of our community’s ancestors. In documenting, renovating, and preserving these structures, we also know the construction methods, tools, materials, and craftsmanship techniques used. At Rubeling & Associates, it is our honor to preserve the past and, in so doing, design for the future.

Mt. St. Mary’s University Borders Learning Center Emmitsburg, MD Rubeling & Associates designed the gut and complete renovation of this 12,000sf, two story stone building dating back to the 1880’s. The renovation, which required all new building systems, included new roof, handicapped accessibility, and former loading dock transformed into a student porch. A “newer” section added in 1980, was upgraded from aluminum siding to stone veneer. The project was completed for $1.75 million.
